The Desire Line ran the length of New Orleans's French Quarter from Canal Street, along Bourbon Street to Desire Street in the city's 9th Ward, and back along adjacent Royal Street. The now defunct line served as the inspiration for playwright Tennessee Williams' epic tale, A Streetcar Named Desire. The railcar itself, Desire #922 was retained and remains in use today on the city's historic St. Charles Streetcar Line.
